Another breakthrough in the Iloilo film industry was set with the launching of the first Ilonggo feature-length animation movie entitled "Pikyaw" on October 23 at Robinsons Place Iloilo.

"Pikyaw" is an all-Ilonggo movie made through the collaboration of Multimedia Arts & Graphics (MAGE), Inc., University of Iloilo-PHINMA Education Network - College of IT Education, and Think Logic Records. The said Iloilo-based entities formed a team and merged their expertise to make the first Ilonggo animatiion feature-length movie possible.

Mahnnie Tolentino, the movie's screenplay writer, "Pikyaw" was first conceptualized on September 2012 and was first advertised on December 3, 2012, during the first Iloilo Comic Convention held at Robinsons Place Iloilo.

Dr. Arnold Fuentes, the founding officer of MAGE Inc. drafted the story of "Pikyaw". He created an animated character of a child who turns into a superhero.

With that concept, Dr. Fuentes decided to team up with other Ilonggo talents, which include the Think Logic Records that made the musical scores of the movie and the students of UI-PHINMA-College of IT Education who served as voice talents and production crew, to create an Ilonggo film masterpiece.

"Pikyaw" uses Hiligaynon in its script to make it relatable to the target audience of the movie, which includes students. It's a story of overcoming cowardice, arrogance and conceitedness while teaching the values of respect, modesty and courage.

Moreover, the film also introduces the traditional Pinoy game "Pikyaw" in which the tile of the film was taken from. The culture of the Ilonggos is depicted by some of the flick's villains who were based on actual Ilonggo superstitions, and different landmarks found in Iloilo were featured since the backdrops show remarkable structures, establishments and other sceneries in the city.

The story of "Pikyaw" revolves in the human dimensional plane of Calixto, an encanto dimensional plane where chaos and misery reigns for years. The state the place is in is a result of the evil acts of Albion, the main villain in the movie.

With this, three children, namely: Abet, Tyrone and Marco were forced to become instruments in restoring Calixto to what it used to be: a place where happiness and peace reigns. Armed with recovered weapons, two sticks and the goal of restoring Calixto, they were able to discover the truth and do sacrifices that come with heroism and bravery.

"Pikyaw" will be shown at Robinsons Place Iloilo Movieworld on December 16-20 from 8AM to 11AM. Portion of the film's proceeds will be used to help those who suffered from the effects of war in Zamboanga and victimized by the recent earhquake occured in Bohol and Cebu.

UPDATE: The PIKYAW team mourns with the nation to the loss of family members and damage to property brought by the super typhoon Yolanda.

Members of the post production team were not immune to the said calamity as well, as the typhoon has left some of them either stranded to their provinces or lost the capability to continue with the production due to the intermittent power connection.

We all pray that the post production team and our fellow Visayans will get through this.

Therefore, in the spirit of mourning and recovery, we are moving the play date of PIKYAW, the 1st Ilonggo Animation Movie, to January next year. Please stay tuned to the exact date within the week.
